Archos Xp Driver

Film fans that are also computer-savvy definitely have the advantage with mobile movies. Any decent PC made in the last five years can handle the task as long as it meets certain minimum requirements:
- Windows XP or Vista, Macintosh OS X 10.1 or later, Linux GPLv2 release
- CPU minimum: Pentium 3 @ 600 Mhz, G3/G4 @ 500 Mhz
- RAM & hard drive minimums: 128MB & 10GB
- USB 1.1 (or, better yet, 2.0) port
Apple’s iTunes, which now runs on both Macs and PCs, racked up a million downloads in its first 20 days of offering video content. But iTunes is pretty much a closed system, and cannot be used with any portable media player but the iPod without extensive “nerd-level” intervention. People seem pleased, though; the iPod has never fallen below 68% of market share for hard disc-based PMPs, and these units (with disc capacities from 20-100GB or more) still outsell the newer flash units by more than10 times.
In addition to “syncing” only with iTunes, the iPod also connects now with USB after using Firewire at its inception, a port included for years on Macs but still somewhat rare in the PC world. Most other hard-disc PMPs-offered up by a who’s who of consumer electronics, including Creative Labs, Toshiba, Archos and Dell, as well as scores of Chinese manufacturers-also connect via the ubiquitous USB port. (Important: The older versions of USB, 1.0 and 1.1, operate at 1/40th the speed of the newer USB 2.0, 12Mbps versus 480Mbps. Firewire has two speeds, Firewire400’s original 400Mbps and the newer Firewire800’s 800Mbps.)
Any buying decision would have to consider such non-product issues as the various use restrictions, different Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems, computer and software requirements, etc. The final product issue to consider is usability, and most units come with some basic movie conversion software (mostly PC-only)-but extremely sophisticated applications are available online for Macs and PCs at little or no cost by searching for “video conversion” at download.com, shareware.com and Google.
Following step-by-step instructions and using the preset values in most applications will get you started with very good results. There are also many ways to locate and acquire various kinds of recorded materials, all starting with simple queries in the major search engines. The geekier (and more patient) you are, the more kinds of conversions you can do-for different PMPs, the Sony PSP, Palm Pilots, phones and so on-starting with your DVD collection, home recordings or downloaded movie files.Â
